Which are the peculiarities of the churches of Siena? For which reasons the Gothic style began important just in this part of Tuscany? To learn more about the elements that bind the architecture of the cathedrals to the historical events, we suggest a series of weekly meetings scheduled every Saturday until March 8th.

The Archeosofica association organized weekly art conventions to explore the hidden meanings in the architectural style of the churches, a fascinating itinerary that will be useful to watch with a different gaze these majestic monuments. The Duomo of Siena, in the heart of the city, is the starting point of a great artistic route dedicated to the uniqueness of the decorative style born in the thirteenth century.

Gothic architecture, in fact, reached the peak of its development between the XII and XIV century and is symbolized by the cathedrals of Siena, Florence and Orvieto; however the Senese art was strongly influenced by the personality of Duccio di Buoninsegna, the author of such masterpieces as the oldest stained-glass window decorated now on display at the Museo dell’Opera del Duomo.

In his studio he formed another artist who marked the XIV century, Simone Martini, who has given a great contribution to the Senese Gothic, as proved by the Maestà at the Sala del Mappamondo of Palazzo Pubblico. Later, the brothers Pietro and Ambrogio Lorenzetti, renewed the painting combining Gothic and volumetric construction in an original way; don’t miss the series of allegorical frescoes preserved at Palazzo Pubblico, you will admire the greatness of Siena in the first half of the XIV century.

The town was very rich and influential; the advent of the Comuni era was the reason why those artworks flourished in a short period. The meetings of the Association, at free admission, will cover topics such as “Jewelry of stone,” or “Unite earth and sky, the phases of construction of the temple”, for more information you can contact the number 3661897344 or send an email to info.siena@boxletter.net, the venue of the meetings is located via Banchi di Sopra 72.
