An event that promotes sport tourism is coming in Siena, it will be a week full of events, competitions, shows and workshops of various sports, an original idea because it combines the natural setting of Siena, known for its art, food and wine, with sport, also meant as a pursuit of well-being.
Sport Siena Week will be a great event open to everyone, we highlight some of the events scheduled from 1st to 9th March to inspire you to join the activities you prefer.
Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd March there will be the Terre di Siena Ultramarathon, the foot race that will cross the welcoming scenery of the Siena hills. The main 50 km marathon will take place on historic Via Francigena starting from San Gimignano until arrival at Piazza del Campo, the 32km foot race will start simultaneously from Colle di Val d’Elsa, while the 18 km race will start from Monteriggioni, both arriving in Siena, paths that allow runners to cross the Sienese countryside and admire its charming landscape
The non-competitive 6 km walk through the streets of the historic center of Siena is recommended for those who do not want to get tired but still want to participate. The calendar of Sport Siena Week also provides thematic exhibitions such as “Move” by Daniele Zacchini and Paolo Lazzeroni at Magazzini del Sale in Palazzo Pubblico, an experiment which combines photography and painting, a synergy that is a good “team play”! Also worth seeing “Artists and craftsmen at the beginning of the sports clubs – Siena 1871-1935”, a journey through the memories of the early local sports associations made by Sienese craftsmen, the exhibition will be hosted in the complex of Santa Maria della Scala at Piazza Duomo.
Among the many available sporting activities there will be also fight contests, master class judo, Nordic walking and pilates sessions, different ways to train and test your own skills; every day you can book a lesson and ask for advice to instructors, trying new sports or improving your abilities in the activities already practiced.
On Friday 7th you can admire vintage cars, as in Piazza Duomo will be a selection of the finest vintage cars that will participate and have participated at the 1000 Miglia the most prestigious race of its kind in Italy. Siena will be the stage where the press conference will present the national event on May 15th.
If you want to watch a unusual football match among the national football team of DJs and a representative of Siena Contradas you should go at Stadio Artemio Franchi on Thursday, 6th March at 3:30 pm; the event will end with a DJ set at Piazza del Campo from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm, a nice chance to dance together all the latest top songs.
