April is a great month for hikes and walks in the province of Siena, because here the colors are brighter and relax becomes a wonderful experience, an irresistible attraction for those who are looking for a captivating destination.
San Gimignano is the place that we recommend, because during April visitors can take advantage of the Easter holidays or the long weekend April 25th – May 1st, visiting both Siena and the legendary “town of 16 towers” (formerly there were 72 towers), listed by UNESCO as World Heritage Site.
Our advice is to go to the photo exhibition of the prestigious author Elliott Erwitt, an American artist who portrayed in his shots many of the 20th century icons such as Grace Kelly, Jacqueline Kennedy and Marilyn Monroe, besides to many landscapes shot in his travels around the world.
The exhibition, just entitled “Icons”, will be inaugurated on April 6th and will be open to the public until August 31st, the location is the Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art “Raffaele De Grada” and the photos on display, selected by Erwitt, will be 42 plus 9 exclusive self-portraits, a good reason to visit all the Civic Museums, as the admission ticket includes access to the Museum, the Torre Grossa (the highest in the city, it reaches 54 meters and is also known as Tower Podesta), the Pinacoteca, the Archaeological Museum and the Spezieria Santa Fina, in the historical center of San Gimignano.
Furthermore, at the Gallery you can see the movie “I Bark At Dogs”, with Erwitt as the protagonist along with his er ego André S. Solidor, a man invented to parody the contemporary art world.
