The most awaited wine tourism event in Italy, Open Cellars, is scheduled for Saturday 30th and Sunday 31st May, but this year will last four days in some regions, including Tuscany, due to Italy’s Republic Day that falls on 2nd June.
Open Cellars consists of guided tours to wineries and vineyards, a chance to meet winemakers, allowing you to buy the wines there and above all to live an extraordinary experience: the participants will discover the secrets of winemaking and learn to recognize the peculiarities of different vintages and varieties of wine.
Siena and its province are among the top destinations for wine tastings, this is one of the best opportunities to taste the Chianti, Brunello di Montalcino and Vino Nobile di Montepulciano meeting the vintners where these prestigious wines are produced.
How to join Open Cellars
Check the list of participating wineries (in province of Siena there are 37 wine cellars that joined the event), contact the cellars for reservations and details on opening hours, to plan in advance your visit to wineries while staying in Siena.
In the center of Palio city you can go to Enoteca Emporio Mediterraneo, at Via del Casato di Sotto 11 which will be open from 3 pm to 9 pm Saturday and Sunday, offering a selection of wines from Tuscany and other regions, a journey through the flavors of excellence.
This event is also a chance to taste rare wines, sold-out bottles or wines not yet on the market: for example Brunello di Montalcino Riserva 2010, chosen by the President of the Tuscan Wine Tourism Movement, Violante Gardini, a wine that you can taste at Casato Prime Donne in Montalcino.
To encourage wine lovers to contribute to the success of this edition, there will be the contest “Bevi cosa Vedi”, which will reward the best pictures taken in the cellars and posted on Instagram, an original way to tell your own experience.
Imagine a holiday in a place surrounded by the hills, where the scent of the wine meets the brightness of the landscape colors, where traditions and hospitality are values nurtured with care: this is Siena, what else do you need for a perfect vacation?
