The success of “February at the Museum”, now came to its third edition, invites us to point out the most interesting activities to take part during winter in Siena, as the scheduled events will be replicated throughout the month of February and are a valid excuse to stay in town even on the coldest days.
One of the advantages of this initiative is that there will be events for families with children, and for who travels with friends; every category of tourists will find their own personal way to explore Siena and discover new enchanting glimpses in the historic center.

Guided tours at Civic Museum
The Civic Museum is one of the main places to visit, because there will be many guided tours and special openings on different days of the week. On Fridays (on 3, 10, 17 and 24 February) at 3:00 pm there will be guided tours to the museum’s frescoes, a tour that will allow you to reveal the secrets and oddities related to these works of art.
There will also be “Poetry at the Museum”, a chance to appreciate this expressive language through readings by poets who have chosen the museum setting to present their works. This poetic event is scheduled every Tuesday (on 7, 14, 21, and 28 February) at 6:00 pm in the Hall of the Globe.
One of the guided tours is scheduled on Sunday 12 February at 11:00 am, organized by “Turisti per casa” of Associazione Federagit di Siena, an excellent opportunity for those who wants to visit Siena on a weekend.
The Public Palace, which houses the Civic Museum on the first floor, is also home to the Hall of the Palio costumes that you should visit because is very representative of the connection with the Palio of Siena.
On Thursdays in February (on 2, 9, 16 and 23) you can admire the costumes worn by the reenactors on the occasion historic parade that introduce Palio (on 2 July and 16 August). Advanced reservation is required; the meeting is at 6:00 pm in the Cortile del Podestà at Public Palace in Piazza del Campo.
On 4 and 11 February at 4:00 pm, don’t miss a visit to the “Secret Rooms” on the ground floor, since this part of the palace is usually closed to the public.
Discover the Ambrogio Lorenzetti’s restored frescoes
In 2017 in Siena there will be a large exhibition dedicated to Ambrogio Lorenzetti; however, to prepare for the event, you can join guided tours to the frescoes being restored, now preserved in the Basilica of San Francesco.
An art history expert will explain you the procedures followed to restore the frescoes to their original beauty and describe the style and peculiarities of these works of art by Lorenzetti.
The visits will take place exclusively on 2 weekends, from Friday 10 to Sunday 12 and from Friday 24 to Sunday 26 (the maximum number of participants for each guided visit is 10 people, so we advise you to book in advance).
