Postata il: 30 abril 2017

Art in Siena has a fundamental role, as witnessed by the artists who created their masterpieces in very different historical periods from the Middle Ages to the Renaissance, from the artistic currents of the XIX and the XX century.

Siena, in other words, continues to be a source of inspiration for art lovers and an amazing place to host exhibitions, thanks to its museums, art galleries and other suggestive spaces set up for special occasions.

From May to October 2017, many exhibitions are planned in town, so we have prepared a brief guide to all the main events.
At the Magazzini del Sale (located within Palazzo Pubblico) you can visit, within May 7th, Dipinti/Paintings, an anthology of Carlo Semplici which includes more than a hundred works by this Sienese artist.

ArteSiena’s festival is a meeting point for artists and projects that are extremely different, a sort of connection between the town of Palio and the rest of the world, through the 80 works of art of RiartEco 2017 (open from May 4th to 10th) made exclusively with waste materials.
This exhibition is itinerant and this edition will address the theme of sustainable lifestyles with the intention of producing less waste and triggering a change in the way of thinking of an artwork.

All the exhibitions of ArteSiena festival will be set up at Palazzo Patrizi, at Via di Città 75, an important place for the city, which also hosts the Accademia degli Intronati.

From May 20th to June 4th, there will be an exhibition with 17 works of art, one for each Contrada, inspired by the constellations.
The project, called 17x17x17 – Siena, the city of stars, is inspired by the book by architect Mario Tassoni and aims to tell the myth of the city reconstructing its invisible part.

The works of the Sienese painter Alessandro Grazi will be on display from 9th to 25th June: the collection, presented with the title Delizia istintiva, is characterized by the choice of a phrase or a word for each work that explains the author’s thought.

The next event of ArteSiena is the exhibition Cattedrali, Cavalli e Cavalieri by the artist Carlo Sassi, open to the public from 28th June to 23rd July, a series of works ranging from paintings to sculptures, from drawing to bronze castings and precious metals, from ceramic bas-reliefs to engravings and etchings.

The exhibition dedicated to Cesare Olmastroni, scheduled from 28th July to 20th August, is a tribute to this recently disappeared Sienese painter, who was called a “brushmaker”; in memory of Olmastroni will be exposed a selection of the most representative paintings of his style.

From August 24th to September 4th, ArteSiena will host Fabio Mazzieri with the exhibition In avvicinamento, a collection of 24 canvases inspired by Metamorphoses of the Latin poet Ovid and made between 1970 and 2017.

The last exhibition in summer will be about sea travel, told by Laura Tondi‘s works and made with mixed techniques (oils, wax and oil pastels, acrylics, pencils and pigments). The works will be exhibited from 9th to 20th September and, in the same period, you can join an engraving workshop set up by Laura Tondi.

Groenlandia: la terra dell’infinito silenzio blu is the title of Inge Lise Rasmussen‘s watercolor exhibition that will close ArteSiena festival and is scheduled from 22nd September to 3rd October, an evocative journey through the world’s largest island with the nuances of blue which depicting a majestic land with impressive charm.

La Maestà di Simone Martini

In Siena certainly you shouldn’t miss an event related to its history: from June 15th to September 15th, it will be possible to visit an exhibition that collects the best of Sienese art between XIII and XV centuries, including masterpieces by Duccio di Buoninsegna, Giovanni Pisano, Lorenzetti brothers, Simone Martini, Jacopo della Quercia, Sassetta and Francesco di Giorgio.
Some of the 80 exhibited works of art have never been displayed before and this event will be hosted by Magazzini del Sale, a good reason to explore the historic center without haste and admire masterpieces otherwise unavailable to the public.

Have you already chosen what events to attend? Book your trip and get ready for a holiday in the sign of art and extraordinary landscapes.
