Postata il: 21 März 2017

Easter weekend is one of the best periods for visiting Siena and explore its surroundings, because of the sunny weather and longer days, you can take the opportunity to go hiking, see exhibitions, go shopping and join wine and food tastings.

This year Easter will be on 16th April, and we offer you an itinerary that includes very different activities, so you can easily choose what to do during the weekend or an extended stay in Siena.
On Sunday morning, from 9:00 am onwards, there is the traditional market in Piazza del Campo, where you will find leather crafts, handmade products, ceramics, toys, books and food speciies.

If you are traveling with children, we recommend to join the Green Treasure Hunt (Caccia al Tesoro Verde), scheduled every Saturday and Sunday during March and April, at the Botanical Garden, from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm.
This game is recommended to kids but also to parents: together you will discover and learning to recognize plants of the rainforest in the Botanical Garden.
The award of the treasure hunt is a bookmark with seeds, a gift that makes the children understand the importance of nature and environmental care.
The price of the family ticket is 10 €; the single ticket costs € 5 and admission is free for children up to 11 years. For information you can call the phone numbers 339 1125987; 338 4696296 or write an email to morimando@proeco.it

If you enjoy visiting historical museums that host exhibitions of contemporary art and photography, we recommend a stop at Santa Maria della Scala because from April 13th it will open the exhibition Ten Years and Eighty-Seven Days by Luisa Menazzi Moretti.

It’s an exhibition that shows 17 large format photographs and 9 texts from letters and interviews with the prisoners that are sitting on death row of Livingston prison, located close to Huntsville, in Texas. The exhibition’s title is a reference to the average waiting time of an inmate from the sentence to the execution.
This exhibition won the International Photography Awards in 2016 and it will be open to the public until 4th June 2017.

On Easter Monday, you can choose to join an excursion in a lesser known hamlet, traveling aboard an unusual means of transport.
The tour that we suggest is organized by Treno Natura on Monday 17th April 17 and is a trip to Buonconvento on a steam train.
Departure is at 8:35 am from Siena, so you can experience the thrill of a journey aboard a historic train and get into the right mood for visiting Buonconvento, a town included in the list of the most beautiful hamlets in Italy.

Buonconvento (whose name means “happy place”), is located in the Valle dell’Ombrone and is a town dating back to the XIV century perfectly preserved and characterized by churches, castles, a museum of sacred art and some palaces built in art nouveau style.

On April 17th there will be the Antiques Market, a great chance to buy valuable products and make original gifts.
The return by train to Siena is scheduled at 5:40 pm, so you can also have a dinner in a typical restaurant in the historic center. For tips refer to our article The best restaurants in Siena where to taste typical dishes.

If you want to stay in Siena more than a couple of days, we recommend two shops where shopping and renew your wardrobe, a very nice way to enjoy your holiday when you go for a stroll through the alleys of the center.

Dolci Trame (at Via del Moro, 4) offers a collection of Roberto del Carlo shoes, clothes by the brands Faliero Sarti and Ter et Bantine, just to mention a few, inside a modern boutique in the heart of Siena.
Mag is a boutique specializing in women’s clothing and offers a wide choice of clothes, accessories and shoes by Made in Italy brands. Mag is located at Via dei Termini 49, just a few minutes from Piazza del Campo.

Book your holiday in Siena in April, it is the best way to welcome spring!
