A place like Siena is the ideal set for the last day of the year, because this town can satisfy the most demanding tastes in literal meaning – thanks to the gastronomical delicacies – and in figurative meaning both, due to the scheduled events and the charm of this romantic venue. Let’s discover how to spend the 31st December joining the initiatives planned for Christmas.
About the big dinner, a lot of restaurants in Siena offer exclusive menus, so we suggest you some ideas to better appreciate the local cuisine. One of the typical dishes in this season is soup, above all the Ribollita (reboiled soup), recommended during the coldest days, this recipe is now recreated by the most creative chefs that are looking for the most genuine flavors for theirs menus.
Another classic dish is crostini al fegato (croutons with liver), pici, handmade pasta similar to spaghetti and usually dressed with aglione, a tomato sauce with a lot of garlic. One of the restaurants that offers a special menu for New Year’s Eve is the Antica Osteria da Divo, at via Franciosa, where to taste an appetizer with gratin shrimp, the potato dumplings with fondue and pecorino cheese of Pienza, the beef tenderloin with mushrooms, only to mention some delicacies, to get along with the precious Chianti Classico wine, ideal to drink a toast.
If you prefer a show in addition to the dinner, the Rinnovati Theater offers a classical ballet performance with the special guest Giuseppe Picone (a star of ballet) with a tasty interval, an aperitif served at the foyer. The show is dedicated to the life of Giuseppe Verdi and at the end of the ballet there will be the New Year’s Eve dinner at the theater, a very special chance to meet the dancers and the choreographer!
To continue the celebrations we suggest a gospel concert on New Year’s Day at Rozzi Theater at 5:00 pm, the first music event of the year with J. David Bratton & N.Y. Gospel All Stars from USA. These are some cues for your stay in Siena, of course the reservation is required for all the events, so think about the arrival date and enjoy Christmas holidays!
