Here we suggest you three exhibitions scheduled this month and dedicated to who are looking for a “new gaze” on Siena.

The art gallery Magazzini del Sale, located at Palazzo Pubblico, hosts the collective exhibition “A cavallo dell’anno” that gathers a selection of Senese artists, among which some authors of the Drappellone (the Rag) of Palio previous editions.
The subject of the exhibition is the horse, an artwork realized by Alessandro Grazi and Stefano Sardelli made of polystyrene and papier-mâché painted by each artist involved in the exhibition; at the end of the event the horse will be donated to Siena Municipality.

The exhibition is open until 30th January and is a chance to see Palazzo Pubblico, which is just in Piazza del Campo, in the historical center of Siena.
The Sala Rosa of Siena University is lesser known location for art events, but here are periodically organized meetings and exhibitions, so we recommend a visit.

Here there is the solo show of Riccardo Barone, “Simplicity”, a part of the “7 on the ar” series, open from Monday to Friday 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, the address is Piazzetta Silvio Gigli 1, take advantage of this place to admire one of the most ancient Universities in Europe (it was founded on 1240).

Is important to mention the event of Saturday 25th January, because at the Basilica dell’Osservanza there will be the anniversary of the 1944 Anglo-American air raid which destroyed the church, a tragic event remembered by Senese people as a wound, for the bomb victims and for the damages suffered from this precious place (totally restored in 1949).

On 23th and 24th January a pictures exhibition of the air raid it will be a preview, while on Saturday at 4:00 pm is scheduled the meeting with the professor Alessandro Orlandini (who will tell the story of this air raid) and the PhD Anna Maria Guiducci, who will describe the restoration works of the Basilica.
At the end, after the Mass and the concert of Coro di San Miniato, there will be an aperitif for all the attendees.
Stay in Siena is an opportunity to travel through again all the events that from Middle Age to now made the history of the town, with the awareness that the memory has to be alive to better understand the identity of a place so unique.
