What makes a holiday really unforgettable? Firstly an enchanting spot, a comfortable place to stay, of course, and the wish to join in tourist activities different from usual.
Siena, by virtue of its uniqueness, needs no “special effects” to capture the attention of visitors; however, it’s useful to know what special events are scheduled and cities and how to participate.
After a rainy day, usually there’s a rainbow: this cue is a reference to the initiative Rainbow Summer ( Arcobaleno d’Estate), a series of exclusive events that will take place in Siena and in the rest of Tuscany from 17th to 24th June, just in time for the summer solstice.
If you are interested to know when to visit Siena, this is our careful selection of all the events in the historical center.
Concerts and shows in the Senese Contrada
On Friday 17th June we begin to celebrate the coming of summer at Via di Pantaneto, street which is a continuation of Via Francigena for those arriving from outside the city walls. Here will take place Viva Pantaneto Viva, an event with jugglers, magicians, musicians, game shows, street artists and art exhibitions.
This event will last from 6:30 pm to 11:30 pm, while in Via Montanini there will be the White Night, with evening openings of stores and workshops, as well as concerts that will enliven this downtown area.
If you like vintage style, take a stroll in Via Camollia and Via Garibaldi: from 17th to 21st June you will notice the bars, restaurants and shops set up in 50’s fashion style: you’ll also sip special aperitif and tastings. This is a different way to make a leap into the past.
On Saturday 18th, Piazza Provenzano will be the set of the pianist Danilo Rea’s concert, he will perform at 9:00 pm. To purchase tickets call 0574 442235 or send an email to fabbricaopera@fabbricaopera.com.
An extraordinary event is scheduled on Monday 20th June at the solstice. Lux in Nocte, at the Orti del Costone, in Via del Costone 9, from 9:30 pm; it’s an incredibly fascinating place, with the Basilica of San Domenico in front of and the Cathedral behind, a urban garden based on eco-sustainability basics, ideal backdrop for a concert of Unione Corale Senese “Ettore Bastianini” and, to follow, for the preview of the documentary “Divine Beauty – the Cathedral of Siena.”
Admission is free but we recommend booking by phone, 0577 286300, or sending an email to opasiena@operalaboratori.com.
Tuesday, 21st will be the World Music Day, so there will be many concerts in the squares and streets of Siena, culminating in jazz concert at the Auditorium Santa Chiara at Via Valdimontone 1, with the most talented students of Siena Jazz.
