How to enjoy sightseeing in Siena

Sometimes you can only stay a few days in a place full of attractions such as Siena, so you want to go sightseeing and enjoy the main monuments, squares, churches and the museums in a short time at an affordable cost.

For this reason, many tourist destinations offer tourist cards or other all-inclusive formula designed to help travelers: it’s better to visit more places paying one ticket and take advantage of discounts if you are a group or family.
In Siena there isn’t this kind of tourist card, but we provide you some useful tips to discover all the masterpieces of Siena, even if you decide to spend a weekend here or a longer stay in town.

Begin this itinerary from public museums in Piazza del Campo: we already explained why in Siena is Unesco Heritage Site since 1995, so it is appropriate to visit the Torre del Mangia, the Civic Museum and Santa Maria della Scala.

The combined ticket at a cost of 20 Euros allows you to visit these three attractions and it should be remembered that the ticket includes the temporary exhibitions at Santa Maria della Scala. Visit the cathedral, the crypt and the Baptistery of Siena

For a complete tour of the artistic masterpieces preserved in Siena, we recommend the Opa Si Pass All Inclusive, a special ticket that costs 12 euro (from 1st March to 31st October, while from 1st November to 28th February, the cost is 8 euro) and include a visit to the Cathedral, the Museo dell’Opera, a climb up to the Facciatone, the crypt and the Baptistery of San Giovanni.

This tour is exciting because you can explore the crypt, where there is a cycle of frescoes dated back to 1200, you can also enjoy the panoramic view from Facciatone, from which you can admire the beautiful Tuscan countryside.
Furthermore, at the Museum there are treasures as the Maestà dy Duccio di Buoninsegna – the largest arpiece ever painted – the very delicate Golden Rose by Bernini, the Madonna and Child by Donatello and the moving Crucifix by Pisano.

At the end of this journey you should visit the National Art Gallery, at Via San Pietro 29, the last stage to have an overview of all works of art in the city. The price of the ticket is only 4 Euros, so with 36 € you can visit the entire collection of the masterpieces housed in Siena.
